Summer weather is ideal with cool nights and days in the mid 70's with virtually no humidity. There is great whitewater rafting in the area with great trips to back country lakes like the Missouri Lakes Trail or horse back riding at Piney Lake. The annual Bravo Music Festival Featuring Major Orchestra's from the world perform in the beautiful outdoor Pavilion at Ford Park (see here http://www.vail.com/summer/events/bravo-music-festival.aspx). The annual summer dance festival with dance troupes from around the world also perform in the Pavilion at Ford Park. September has the food and wine festival (Gourmet Gore: see here https://www.gourmetongore.com/) and Taste of Vail, which is rated as one of the nation's best food and wine festivals by Forbes.com, USA Today, and the Travel Channel (see here https://www.tasteofvail.com/). The third and fourth week of September is the start of fall foliage season, which continues through mid-October, known as "Colorful Colorado" as the Aspen trees turn a bright golden color. The center of Vail and Lionshead are pedestrian zones, free of cars, which makes it a great place for long relaxing walks. Wonderful golf, excellent tennis courts, Betty Ford Alpine Park, Gerald Ford Amphitheatre (my personal favorite) with gorgeous views of Gore Range are a fifteen minute walk away or can be reached in under ten minutes by Vail’s excellent free bus service, which uses minimally-polluting hybrid buses. Our favorite restaurants : La Tour, Up the Creek, Ludwig's Cafés & bars: Pepi's Piano Bar in Sonnenalp, Tavern on the Square Special places to shop: Gorsuch, The Golden Bear, Vail Farmer's Market - Sundays in the Summer Leisure and cultural activities: Gerald R. Ford Amphitheatre at the base of Vail Mountain, Bravo Classical Music Festival, Vail International Dance Festival Walks or jogging paths: Path along Gore Creek, Top of the Gondola Views - Adventure Ridge, Betty Ford Alpine Gardens
